Chapter 7: Back from the abyss... of love
16 September So, here we are over a month since the first update, and the first with current pictures in about six weeks. Hey, I've been busy. In the intervening time between the last chapter and now, I went on vacation, got married, and went through two separate yet intertwined crises. I'm just coming out of the other side of this harried and tumultuous period., dazed and blinking in the sunshine.
That's my excuse.
The truck, as I mentioned two episodes ago, has been de-engined. The three major components-- the head, the block and the crankshaft-- have been sent to a trusted machine shop for cleaning and repair. When Lazlo told him who rebuilt the engine, the machinist over there said "Power-Pak, huh? Out of Los Angeles. Probably did a terrible job, huh?"
Indeed they did. The journal surfaces on the crankshaft were damaged too badly to be repaired. Another crankshaft has been ordered.
And so things stand. We're actually just waiting for parts to arrive and the re-assembly to begin. There's more, but I'll discuss them next chapter.
Here are pictures of the removal of the engine from the Beast, back on Sunday, August 8, 1999.
And here's a shot of the vintage 1956 Commercial plate that's going to registered to the beast. The whole plate fit on the scanner, natch.
